Nu Yah
Our New Year's Tradition on the Rez
On the Rez, we greet each other with “Nu Yah” for the New Year.
One of my favorite traditions is the on New Year’s day, when kids go door-to-door “Nu Yahing” to collect special Nu Yah cookies and donuts. It’s not as popular as it used to be, but you’ll still find those Nu Yah cookies and donuts at every New Year’s party.
Some traditions fade, but the ones that matter find a way to stay alive.
